Raise Alpacas

Are you interested in learning you might want to raise alpacas? Where do alpacas come from? What do you do with alpacas? We hear these questions all the time. The answers are quite simple but more than one correct answer exists. This workshop will take away the mystery of raising alpacas. Are you thinking about spending the next 5-10 years raising alpacas? This class will help with the learning curve and give you a big head start. The weekend will consist of group discussions, hands-on workshops, business facts and much, much, more!

This program is a full weekend of “NBA” (Nothing But Alpacas). The weekend is full of activities, interactive discussions and hands-on learning. This class reveals what we have learned since we began raising alpacas almost 15 years ago. You will leave understanding why alpacas are so popular and why their numbers continue to grow.

If you are not sure if, or why, you may want to raise alpacas, this is a class you will want to attend. Also, If you looking to raise alpacas as a business this class will be a big boost to your learning curve.

• Industry history, present happenings and future goals.
• How alpacas compare with other livestock.
• Facility set-up, fencing and pasture/feed requirements.
• Veterinary care, handling, nutrition, breeding, birthing, cria care and recordkeeping.
• Alpaca Fiber characteristics what makes it so special and processing considerations.
• Opportunity for learning about fiber processing , Skirting, Carding, Spinning and Weaving.
• Hands on opportunity for alpaca handling and breeding behavior.
• What to look for and how to select alpacas that will meet your needs.
• Evaluating alpacas through show results and scientific data.
• Business issues such as insurance, tax considerations and business plans

  Fee is $100 ea or $175 for 2 and includes all materials, food and beverages. (overnight accommodations not included.)
