How prepared are you for your next birthing season? We are hosting a neonatal clinic for alpaca owners & interested breeders. This day long program will consist of a lecture covering alpaca reproduction and cria care and finish up in the afternoon with a wet lab for hands on experience identifying and correcting problem presentations and torsions. The program is presented by Dr Richard Wheeler DVM, Diplomate American College of Theriogenology. Owner of Poudre River Veterinary clinic specializing in reproduction of small animals and livestock.
We’ve birthed close to 400 crias here at Stargazer and to this day we consider the neo-natal clinic we attended almost 25 years ago to be one of the most beneficial classes that we attended. It will help you identify birthing problems while there is still time to safely correct them and when it is best to get veterinary assistance.
Clinic will consist of a morning lecture on alpaca reproduction, labor, delivery and aftercare
After lunch we will go into the wet lab portion using hands-on delivery with realistic birthing uterus dummies* and cria cadavers* . You will learn how to recognize a problem delivery (dystocia), torsions and other issues that to be aware of. (*Provided by CSU)
